 Next Meeting

The Next Meeting of the SBE Chapter 67 will be on August 26th

A Special SBE Presentation by Arnie Toshner, GMA, LLC, Junger-Audio

6P for Dinner and 7P for the Presentation at Crystal's Pizza & Spaghetti  930 West Airport Freeway, Irving, TX - (972) 579-0441

This month’s program hosted by Junger Audio includes a discussion on pending FCC legislation on loudness and a discussion on CALM solutions.

With all the difficulty brought about with transition to digital television, who would have believed that audio volume control would have become a national issue.  Now we face the Commercial Advertisement Loudness Mitigation Act (the CALM Act. H.R. 1084).

Junger Audio “Level Magic” combines an AGC, Limiter, Brick Wall and more, and it is completely scalable and leaves no artifacts, latency or distortion.  Junger uses a "multiloop single band processor" design.  Level Magic™ maintains the spectral balance of the audio, not breaking the signal up into frequency bands as some processors do. "Multiband" processors divide the audio into 4 or even 5 bands (e.g. Bass, Lo-mid, Mid, Hi, etc) which inherently changes the spectral balance of the audio.  Variable low, mid, and high EQ are constantly adjusted based on the signal level in each band. When you sum the multiple bands back to produce the final output audio, phase cancellation as well as 2nd and 3rd Harmonic Distortion is inevitable.

The Level Magic rack mount systems allow Junger to offer a large range of Input and Output modules (Analog, AES, SD, HD, etc.). It also makes future upgrades from a 4-channel Level Magic card to 8 channels with a simple upgrade. Junger enjoys a reputation and worldwide presence that few companies have achieved.

Featured Bill Robertson from Digital Alert Systems with “The Road to Compliance” - Important Information For Radio, Television, Emergency Operations Centers, Production and Master Control Operators. Bill Explained the new CAP program part of the EAS system upgrade in a lively meeting

das_logo.jpgAlerting is a big deal right now, given all the activity on the regulatory front and our nation's ongoing need for reliable emergency information.

You had a taste of it at the Taste of Nab last month and many of you asked for more.  Now drill down as we offer a presentation showcasing several elements you may have seen while expanding on the key elements in the upcoming adoption of CAP and what it means to broadcasters.

The Emergency Alert System (EAS) is a nationwide emergency alerting program that broadcasters, cable and wireless cable television systems, and other service providers identified by the Commission (as EAS Participants) must provide communications capability in national emergencies. EAS also is available at the state and local level to enable EAS Participants, on a voluntary basis, to transmit local or state emergency information, such as severe weather warnings and child abduction alerts (“Amber Alerts”). The Federal Communications Commission, in conjunction with the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and the National Weather Service (NWS), implement EAS at the federal level.

 Welcome!
To the home of the Society of Broadcast Engineers Chapter 67 Inc. We have been an active SBE Chapter since 1979. We are the second largest SBE Chapter in the country. We meet on the last Thursday of every month except December, see below for details. We are proudest of our work in frequency coordination, having established the first "on-line" coordination system in 1983. We think of ourselves as a family, and try to help each other both professionally and personally.
